Without Strategic Water Security, Farmers Will Migrate in Search for Wetter Lands

During the year 2012, GWI in Zambia analysed contextual situations causing devastating drought in most rural parts of the Zambia's Southern Province. Through dialogues with local communities that gathered over 300 people, villages’ chiefs reported the unbearable water crisis faced by communities. If nothing is done for this population, GWI’s prediction is estimated that in 8-10 years people will start moving away in search for better opportunities in wetter lands. The outcry by communities in the Southern Province of Zambia demands responsiveness to address their water security in order to reduce their vulnerability to water scarcity and prevent potential conflicts.
